Resetting at the Harbor

College Park, MD

Fun Fact: I lived in Virginia some years ago and spent a healthy amount of time in the DC/DMV area visiting friends that were PharmD students at Howard while I was in seminary. I have not been back to DC since I left Richmond over five years ago. Luckily I was able to score a flight for about 100 bucks to visit my mom which is exactly what I had been refunded for my flight to Florida (gif). I did not expect to do a whole lot in the area since my mom would be at work and I had a mountain hillof midterms to grade. Plus I was there specifically to get a little rest since I did not get my few days home last month.

I spent most of my time grading and vegetating on the couch of my mom’s apartment/hotel room situation watching cable, which was amazing because I do not have cable. I watched the most delicious show on Vice called Most Expensiveist hosted by 2Chains. If y’all didn’t know, 2Chainz is one of my guilty pleasures. I did a lot of cackling. I also binged watched My 600lb Life and 90 Day fiancé. This is why I don’t need cable. I would not get much done.

Say that to say, it was much needed because my body had been crying out in the form of daily tension headaches and an almost cold for about a week. Now I know it is all stress related because I been SKRESSED, you hear me? But I also know better and haven’t been doing better, so I was trying to do damage control. I had to take multiple days off in a row to be able to start repairing my body. Moral of the story: Take care of yourself or your body will make you do it. This is why I stress self care so much. It is more that affirmations and candles, it is placing healthy boundaries in your life so that you can be in balance, healthy, and happy.

My mom and I did venture out for a bit because she had been working 6-7 days a week for 10 hours a day for three weeks, 2 of which she had been sick. (I’m trying to tel y’all, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF). Say all that to say, she had not been anywhere since getting to DC. On her day off we ventured to the National Harbor and walked around for awhile playing with my new lens. It was a great spot to visit and the weather was so nice, not boiling hot like in Houston. I loved shooting with my mom because she is an artist and was my first photography partner. It was also therapeutic for us both because we were out and about laughing and creating. We also stopped at Crab Cake Cafe for some delicious crab cake sandwiches (I highly recommend visiting).

Overall, spending a few days being a little lazy, creating new content, and loving on my mom did ya girl some good. Until next time.

Love and Light,
